The former Gor Mahia forward has scored 21 goals in 20 games for Al Duhail.

Ahead of the Qatar Cup final against Al Sadd on Thursday, Harambee Stars skipper Michael Olunga has credited teamwork behind his rich vein of form that has seen him net 21 goals in 20 games this season.

The former Gor Mahia forward is in line to bag his second title with Al Duhail this season after clinching the Qatar Stars Cup back in March which marked the club’s maiden title in the competition.

Speaking ahead of the final slated for Thursday, Olunga acknowledged his teammates who play a pivotal role in his impressive goal-scoring form.

“I am happy because I score goals, as this is my mission, but we must not forget that these goals come from the distinguished assists that I receive from my teammates, and now we are in a final match, and we must implement the coach’s plan and work to crown with our second title.

Scoring goals gives me great confidence, as well as the clear cooperation between everyone in the team, but in some matches I do not succeed in scoring, but I contribute to another colleague reaching the net and contribute to achieving victory. We in Al Duhail play with the spirit of the group,” said Olunga

The 29-year-old is currently the Qatar Stars League's top scorer with 14 goals and will be looking to clinch his second successive Golden Boot gong in the Arabian country.

Olunga admitted that the clash will a fiendish one but Duhail will be seeking revenge against Al Sadd after losing last season’s final against the opponents who have failed to hit the heights of last season.

“The match will not be easy and we as players have a high morale boost after winning the Ooredoo Cup in recent days, which indicates the development of the team’s level, and in the previous edition we lost to Al Sadd, and therefore we want to regain the title in this match.

This season was different for Al Sadd and Al Duhail, with a large number of national players joining the national team, which affected the performance of the two teams. On our part, the coach called up a number of young players and they made us win the Ooredoo Cup.

We are now in another competition and we know that we are up to it. We will face a team that will enter the field with 9 Qatari players in their squad, but we will do what is required of us in order to achieve victory,’ added Olunga.
