Mathare United had appointed Okumbi as the club's new special technical advisor.

Confusion has rocked the appointment of former Harambee Stars head coach Stanley Okumbi as the new Mathare United special technical advisor.

News of the appointment had been released by the club through a statement published on their official social media pages saying that Okumbi will take up the role alongside their former player Collins Korea Omondi.

However, Okumbi, who also handles the U-18 national football team, has come out to state that Mathare sought his services but informed them that he was not available because he is committed elsewhere.

"Mathare United had approached me, but I informed them I am currently engaged elsewhere.

I am preparing the youth national team for the upcoming CECAFA tournament. I could not take the Mathare United role because that needs a 100% commitment," he said

Okumbi was expected to work with Korea to salvage the team from relegation after they redeployed caretaker coach Samuel Koko back to his goalkeeper's coaching position.

Korea is familiar to the club as he helped lay the foundation for the club's promotion to the Premier League 25 years ago as he was part of the squad that won the 1998 Moi Golden Cup.

He also coached the club in the infancy stages of his coaching career between 2014 and 2015, serving as an assistant to Okumbi.

Korea has also previously held different technical bench positions at Nzoia Sugar, Nairobi Stima, Kariobangi Sharks, KCB, Sony Sugar, and Posta Rangers.

Mathare United are currently sitting at position 16th on the log with 22 points from 26 matches played so far this season.

The Slum Boys are set to play Gor Mahia in their next league match on Wednesday at Moi International Stadium in Kasarani.
