A round up of Sunday's NSL matches, including Shabana who were held to a 0-0 draw by Gusii FC in Kisii.

FKF Premier League promotion-chasing Shabana FC missed on a glorious chance to return to the top of the NSL table after being held to a 0-0 draw by Gusii FC in the much anticipated Kisii derby on Sunday afternoon.

Shabana went out all guns blazing, creating a flurry of attacks particularly in the first half and could have gone ahead in the 9th minute through Cornelis Juma whose beautiful effort was well saved.

Vincent “Terminator” Nyabuto also had a glorious chance through a tower header in the 15th minute, but could not find the back of the net. Shabana got a penalty in the 25th minute when Issac Otieno won a penalty in the box, but the resulting attempt was missed.

Otieno had a chance to score again just before the break, but his effort was sailed just wide. In the second half, the play was largely characterized by Gusii FC wasting time in efforts to get a point, which they clearly came for and it worked eventually as the side held them to a 0-0 draw.

In Machakos, MCF were able to beat Coastal Heroes 1-0 courtesy of a goal by James Mutuku in the 32nd minute. The second half was characterized by a series of fouls by both sides, and MCF went down to ten men in the 88th minute when Lancelof Wambua was sent off for a second bookable offense.

At the Coast, Nyamawi Beja continued to extend his streak of goalscoring form as his strike was enough to separate SS Assad from Vihiga United. Although Assad remain 14th on 28 points, Nyamawi has now scored 17 goals.

In Migori, Migori United were handed a 2-0 win walkover as the side they were meant to face, Kibera Black Stars failed to show up for the match. It now means their seek for promotion remains consolidated, as they sit on 53 points, eight behind Shabana who sit in the automatic promotion places
