Nigerian Legends Finidi and Amuneke Suffer Losses
Former Barcelona forward Amuneke saw his Heartland FC side suffer a heavy defeat on the road against Plateau United in Jos.
Anthony Sunday inspired the home side with a brace, while Tobi Iyanda's double for the Naze Millionaires was not enough to save Amuneke's men, who dropped to 13th in the league table after the 3-2 loss.
In Enugu, it was also a defeat for former Super Eagles coach Finidi George and his Rivers United players.
Finidi's mini-unbeaten run came to an end as defending champions Rangers FC sealed a narrow 1-0 victory, even without their coach and Super Eagles assistant Fidelis Ilechukwu.
The result saw Rivers United drop from the top of the table to second, two points behind their conquerors Rangers.
New League Leaders Emerge
Following Rivers United's defeat, there is a new team at the top of the NPFL table. Ikenne-based Remo Stars have now leapfrogged United to become the new leaders.
Remo, known as the Sky Blues, secured a comfortable 2-0 home win against El-Kanemi Warriors, with goals from Peter Onuoha and Franck Mawuena in the first half.
Elsewhere in the NPFL, Abia Warriors defeated Niger Tornadoes 2-1, while the league's newcomers, Ikorodu City, fell 1-0 to Bayelsa United.
