NPFL fines Enyimba N10million, Rangers to pay N5millon for matchday mayhem

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has come down hard on Enyimba and Rangers following their chaotic Matchday 35 encounter at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

There was a late drama at the 20,000-capacity stadium on Sunday when Rangers were awarded a penalty in the 98th minute after striker Godwin Obaje seemingly broke free on goal, only to be brought down by Enyimba's Pascal Eze.

A controversial penalty decision by the referee led to a dramatic turn of events as Enyimba fans invaded the pitch, and the players from the Aba-based club refused to continue, resulting in the game's abandonment.

Enyimba suffers heavy Penalty

The NPFL has awarded three points and three goals to Rangers, while Enyimba were handed a hefty fine of N10 million for breaching league regulations.

Rangers fined for security lapses

Meanwhile, Rangers also did not escape punishment entirely. They have been fined N5 million for lapses in security, allowing fans onto the pitch, and exceeding stadium capacity with ticket sales.

With this ruling, Rangers maintain their top spot with 64 points from 35 matches. Enyimba and Remo Stars are tied for second, with 59 points each.

NPFL punishes Rangers and Enyimba

Meanwhile, both clubs have 48 hours to challenge the decision by the league body.
