Nigeria's Taiwo Awoniyi has scored in back-to-back matches to see him join Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor in a special Premier League list.
Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has joined an exclusive Premier League list after another good day at the office.
Awoniyi became the first Nigerian to score in six consecutive matches in the Premier League after helping Forest to their first win of the season.
The Reds defeated newly promoted Sheffield United 2-1 in a closely fought encounter at the City Ground on Friday night.
Awoniyi’s record for Forest
The Nigerian forward continued his impressive run of form after another goalscoring outing for Forest in the PL.
Last weekend, the 26-year-old opened his account for the season in a 2-1 defeat to an ambitious Arsenal side.
His goal against the Gunners proved to be just a consolation but it took him only three minutes to score a second in as many matches against United.
The Nigerian towered above everyone to head home a brilliant cross from Serge Aurier to break the deadlock against the newly promoted side.
The goal was his sixth consecutive goal for the Reds and saw him enter into history books at.
Awoniyi is now the first player since Stan Collymore in the 1995 season to score in six consecutive matches in the Premier League for Forest.
Exclusive African list
The Forst record was not the only one Awoniyi set as he also became the first Nigerian to score in six consecutive Premier League matches.
Awoniyi now has the longest-ever scoring streak by a Nigeria, a feat only bettered by two other Africans per OptaJoe.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor are now the only Africans with a longer run.
Both superstars scored in seven consecutive matches and Awoniyi will be looking to equal that run when next he steps on th pitch.
The former Union Berlin man will have huge task on his hands as Nottingham Forest face Manchester United at Old Trafford next.
