Osimhen, the 2022-23 African Player of the Year, and Lookman, the 2023-24 recipient, proved why they are regarded as two of the continent’s finest talents.

The defining moment came when Lookman, with pinpoint precision, curled a freekick into the danger zone, where Osimhen rose above the Rwandan defence to head home the opener.

The goal was a perfect blend of artistry and athleticism, underlining the chemistry between the two forwards as they played together for the first time in the WCQ.

CAF took to its official Instagram channel to celebrate the duo’s brilliance, posting a cheeky yet apt caption:

CAF shared this picture of Osimhen and Ademola Lookman celebrating the iconic goal.

“Nothing to see here, just your last 2 African Player of the Year winners.”

The statement, dripping with admiration, highlighted the significance of having two of Africa’s most decorated stars leading Nigeria’s charge on the international stage.

For the Super Eagles, the win was a lifeline after a stuttering start to their World Cup qualifying journey.

Osimhen, making his first appearance in the 2026 qualifiers, didn’t stop at one as he later added a second goal with a composed finish, assisted by Samuel Chukwueze.

However, it was his connection with Lookman that stole the spotlight and earned CAF’s glowing tribute.

The victory marked a turning point for Nigeria under new coach Eric Chelle, with Osimhen and Lookman proving to be the catalysts.

Osimhen scored his 24th and 25th goals for Nigeria.

As the Super Eagles aim to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the performances of their African Player of the Year winners offer hope and excitement.

For CAF, it was just another day at the office for two of the continent’s brightest stars and nothing to see [t]here, indeed.
