Joao Felix became the 22nd player to get sent off on his Premier League debut but who are the previous 21?

Joao Felix’s Chelsea debut did not last an hour as the Portuguese forward was sent off in the 58th minute for a reckless tackle against Fulham.

The 23-year-old was thrust directly into the starting XI for Chelsea’s trip to Fulham and even though the Atletico loanee was the best player on the pitch, his night ended in anti-climatic fashion.

Felix became the first Chelsea debutant to get sent off and the 22nd player in history to see red on his full Premier League debut.

Here are the other 21 players who got sent off on their Premier League debuts like Joao Felix.

Last Premier League debutant to get sent off

Before Joao Felix’s unfortunate tackle on Kenny Tete which led to him getting sent off on Thursday,  no Premier League debutant had been sent off since October 2014.

The last man to hold that distinction was Federico Fazio, the Argentine centre-back who lasted 67 minutes in his first Premier League game for Tottenham before seeing red in a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Fastest Premier League debut red card

As unfortunate as the Felix situation was, at least Chelsea fans got to see their new man for 58 minutes in which he played very well.

The same cannot be said for Christian Negouai, the French midfielder who saw red just three minutes into his Premier League debut for Manchester City against Everton in 2004.

Notable debutant red cards

Laurent Koscielny went on to have a solid career for Arsenal but his time at the Emirates did not exactly start well as he got two yellow cards on his debut in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool on August 15, 2010.

The French centre-back had only just joined from Lorient but picked up his second yellow card in additional time at Anfield against Liverpool who also had Joe Cole sent off in the first half for a hard tackle on Koscielny.

Almost exactly a year later, lightning struck again as another Arsenal debutant got sent off, this time it was Ivorian winger Gervinho on August 13, 2011, in a goalless draw away at Newcastle.

Gervinho was shown a straight red card for slapping Joey Barton in a brawl between both team which ensued after the winger had gone down easy in hopes of winning a penalty.

Another recognisable name who saw red on his Premier League debut is Jack Colback, the English midfielder whose bow for Sunderland lasted just 13 minutes with two yellow cards in a 2-1 defeat to Hull City.
