The talented Super Eagles midfielder is happy to be senior international and never expected to be a part of the team under new manager Eric Chelle.

New Super Eagles midfielder Papa Daniel Mustapha couldn’t hide his excitement as he spoke to the team’s media from their Radisson Blu camp in Kigali ahead of a crucial World Cup Qualifier against Rwanda.

The 23-year-old Niger Tornadoes star, one of two home-based NPFL players in Eric Chelle’s debut Super Eagles squad, opened up about his unexpected call-up and rubbing shoulders with Nigeria’s football elite.

In a video shared across the team’s platforms, Papa Daniel recounted his shock at seeing his name on the provisional 39-man list.

“I never expected it. I was just doing my thing,” he said. “When I saw the provisional list, I was shocked. I was like ‘Oh, okay’. And when I saw the 23-man list, I was very happy. Thanks to God, it’s not easy to be here.”

The midfielder, who also helped the Super Eagles B team qualify for CHAN after a six-year absence, described the experience as a dream come true.

“Seeing the big boys in camp, my first time with the Super Eagles, I was so happy,” he added. “It’s motivation to do more, show what I have, and stay humble.”
