Victor Boniface scored his first goal since returning from injury as Bayer Leverkusen defeated West Ham 2-0 in their Europa League quarter-final first leg.
Leverkusen continued to probe for openings, with Łukasz Fabiański denying efforts from Amine Adli and deflections off James Ward-Prowse and Edmond Tapsoba. The first half ended goalless, leaving the home side needing more urgency in the second.
After the interval, Leverkusen continued to apply pressure. Jeremie Frimpong tested Fabiański, and the Polish goalkeeper kept out a header from Patrik Schick.
