Nigeria's third tier league trains media officers ahead of new season

NLO will officially kick off on Wednesday, May 3rd, across the 33 Stadium League venues drawn from the 6 geo-zones.

Ahead of the kick off of the Nigeria's third-tier League, the Nationwide League (NLO), the League has trained media officers on capacity building.

Pulse Sports reports that the league will start on Wednesday, May 3rd, with the curtain raiser, a Kano Derby between Kano Pillars Jnr and Kwankwasiya FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

The league body trained media officers, on NLO one-day capacity-building workshop, and certificates were presented to them by NLO Chief Operating Officer, Olushola Ogunnowo, and Vice President (North) Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Alhaji Lurwanu Malikawa, at the NUJ Press Center in Kano.

NLO players will not be more than 19 - Oladimeji

Pulse Sports reports that NLO's media officer, Abdulgafar Oladimeji, emphasized NLO's commitment to ensuring that only players aged 19 and under participated in the league and said that the organization had implemented anti-forgery processes to counteract fraud and corruption tendencies in the licensing process.

He added that NLO has outlined intentions to use new technology to facilitate the work of player agents and scouts.

He concluded that the introduction of the technological scouting device was primarily designed to showcase the skills and talents of young football players in the league to international clubs.

Ogunnowo, said the primary objectives of the league are to reposition the league as a key resource base for other local and international leagues, professionalize its operations, and generate interest from corporate organizations.

He added that to achieve these objectives, the league has adopted a growth strategy anchored on good corporate governance, administration, and management reforms, the implementation of these reforms in its season operations, and the activation of strong brand-building initiatives.

He said, “Our goal is to make NLO the access market for grassroots football in Nigeria and the youth football target market. We aim to produce the highest number of youths participating in the NLO at the grassroots level and continue to strive for and maintain official recognition of the Youth League from FIFA and increased interest from foreign clubs because of our Youth League.”

Over 400 teams and academics will battle for Nigeria's second-division league, the Nigeria National League (NNL), at the end of the season.
