The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has moved swiftly to fill the void left by the unexpected departure of Randy Waldrum as head coach of the Super Falcons.

This decision comes in the wake of Waldrum's resignation, which was tendered earlier this month.
The American coach, who had been at the helm since 2020, cited personal reasons for his departure, specifically health issues concerning his wife.
In a letter dated September 12th, Waldrum expressed the difficult decision to step down from his role, despite having declared his commitment to the team just a month prior.
Waldrum's resignation follows a challenging period for the Super Falcons, including a disappointing performance in the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers last month.
Despite the setback, Waldrum had initially reaffirmed his dedication to the team, making his subsequent departure all the more unexpected.
The NFF's Executive Committee, acting on the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee, has entrusted Coach Madugu with the responsibility of guiding the team through this transitional period.
This appointment is intended to ensure continuity and stability within the squad as they prepare for upcoming engagements.
Looking ahead, the Super Falcons' next major tournament will be the Women Africa Cup of Nations finals, scheduled to take place in Morocco in the summer of 2024.
This gives the NFF time to conduct a thorough search for a substantive head coach who can lead the team into this crucial competition.
The NFF has emphasised that Madugu's appointment is temporary, with the federation actively working towards securing a permanent replacement for Waldrum.
This process is expected to be carried out meticulously, given the importance of the role and the team's status as one of Africa's footballing powerhouses.
The NFF's swift action in appointing an interim coach demonstrates their commitment to maintaining the team's competitive edge during this period of transition.
