The 22-year-old was on target for The Smurfs in their Beligan Jupiler League clash against Zulte Waregem.
Genk’s latest signing Yira Sor scored his first goal for his new club in their Belgian Jupiler League clash against Zulte Waregem at Cegeka Arena on Saturday night.
Sor joined Genk from Czech Republic side Slavia Prague on new year’s day. The 22-year-old made his bow for Wouter Vrancken’s men in the 3-1 win over Club Brugge, coming in for the last two minutes of the encounter.
Sor marks full debut with a goal
However, Sor was handed his a start against Waregem ahead of his fellow countryman and Genk’s star man, Paul Onuachu. The former Slavia Prague man repaid his manager’s trust in him by scoring the opener after just ten minutes, finishing off a ball from Martin Tresor.
Sor had a full debut to remember as he was lively in attack, firing two shots off target in addition to the goal he scored.
The Nigerian also completed three of his four dribble attempts before he was taken off. Genk dominated the opening proceedings of the game, and could have gone into the break with a comfortable lead. But despite Sor’s early opener, The Smurfs went into the break with just a one goal lead.
Onuachu fails to add to Genk tally
The second half followed a similar pattern with Genk creating the clear chances. However, the league leaders could not find the vital second goal. Vrancken reacted by bringing on his top scorer Onuachu for his goalscorer Sor.
But despite the tall man’s effort, Genk could not find the second goal. It did not matter, though as Sor’s goal was enough to hand the home side the full three points.
The result takes Genk ten points clear at the top, ahead of Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
