Outgoing Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa has explained why his ticket with Doris Petra is already home and dry ahead of the December 7 elections.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Nick Mwendwa believes his team has already won the December 7 elections even before the polls are held.
Mwendwa, who made a surprising move to back his vice president Doris Petra for the presidential seat, while vying as her running mate, says their camp has the backing of the largest number of the 94 delegates set to cast the vote in the elections and it would be hard for any of their opponents to get close.
“We have all the NEC members, 12 of them here. In the branches, we have seven unopposed, so how will you beat us,” Mwandwa posed to the media after presenting his nomination papers to the electoral board alongside Petra on Monday.

Former Harambee Stars and Inter Milan midfielder McDonald Mariga has explained how he will use the experience he gained from playing in Europe to revolutionise Kenyan football.
The outgoing president then weighed in on why he chose to go for a lesser seat in the move that has sent shockwaves among football fans and his opponents.
“Going for vice president is to show Kenyans that you do not have to fight for the top position always. If you have a good team, a second or third post is still good enough because in Kenya, we are always fighting for the top seat,” he added.
“It also sets an example to show that there is not a big difference from being president and being vice president. We want to end this notion that I have been president so I cannot vie for another seat in football.
“I would like to coach my team when I am done, does it mean I am lesser now? That is the mentality we want to change. Maybe after four or eight years she [Petra] would like to go to Nakuru and do women’s football.
“We are fighting for the first position too much and that is the message I am sending to Kenyans by saying I can tale second and it is okay.”
The Petra-Mwendwa ticket is up against ex-Gor Mahia player Sammy ‘Kempes Owino, Barry Otieno, the immediate former FKF Chief Executive Officer; Tom Alila, a former FKF National Executive Committee (NEC) member for Nyanza; Murang’a Seal vice-chairman Hussein Mohammed; and Cleophas ‘Toto’ Shimanyula, chairman of Kakamega Homeboyz.
