Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Neymar is ruled out for the next three to four months as he is set to undergo an ankle injury.
Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Neymar is set to undergo a surgery that would keep him out of action for three to four months, effectively ruling him out of the season.
The 31-year-old Brazilian forward is one of PSG's better performers this season. Christophe Galtier's services will be unavailable until at least the pre-season.
Neymar ruled out of the season
Paris Saint-Germain confirmed today via the club's website that Neymar is set to undergo surgery in Doha, Qatar, that will rule him out of action for the rest of the season.
The club revealed that opting for surgery was a recommendation after expert consultation, and the recurrent nature of the injury warranted the prescription of surgery.
He is to undergo a ligament repair operation to avoid risking escalation or recurrence, and Aspetar Hospital in Doha, Qatar, is the chosen location for the procedure.
He is expected to return to training with the group in three to four months if his recovery progresses as expected.
Neymar's injury
Neymar sprained his ankle on the 20th of February in Paris Saint-Germain's 4-3 triumph over Lille at the Parc des Princes.
Neymar scored the second goal in a thrilling 4-3 encounter in which PSG led 2-0 before letting it slip to fall behind 3-2, only to be saved by late brilliance from Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
The Brazilian did not complete the match, however, as he was stretchered off in the 51st minute of the game after straining his ankle. He was replaced by Hugo Ekitike.
A few days ago, Galtier confirmed Neymar was ruled out of the crucial second-leg clash against Bayern Munich, but it is worse now, as the French manager will be unable to count on the Brazilian, who has helped his team with 18 goals and 17 assists this term, for the rest of the season.
