The Magpies face a major setback ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United due to a key absence.

Newcastle will take to the field in Sunday’s match against Manchester United without the services of manager Eddie Howe.

The sudden development comes after the 47-year-old was admitted to hospital late Friday night due to illness.

The managerial reins for Sunday’s game at St James’ Park will be handed to assistant managers Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones.

Tindall, a long-time ally of Howe from their days together at Bournemouth, addressed the media on Friday in Howe’s absence, preparing the squad for what will now be a particularly emotionally charged encounter.

Since taking over in November 2021 from Steve Bruce, Howe has transformed the Magpies with a modern, energetic brand of football.

In 165 matches in all competitions under his leadership, Newcastle have won 84, drawn 36, and lost 45—a record that speaks volumes of his impact.

The Magpies are still riding the high of their first domestic trophy in 70 years after beating Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final last month.
