Newcastle United are planning a summer transfer move for Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney.
Newcastle United are reportedly planning a summer bid for Arsenal's fringe left-back Kieran Tierney, whose involvement has been limited since the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The Scottish left-back came with big promises when he was signed for Celtic, but injuries have hampered his development. After Zinchenko joined from Manchester City, he is now set for a permanent role as deputy.
Newcastle want Tierney
Newcastle are reportedly planning a summer move for the Scotland international, according to the Mirror. He is also said to be open to leaving the Gunners as he is frustrated over his limited playing time.
Tierney joined Arsenal from Celtic in the summer of 2019 for a fee of £25 million, but he has not progressed as expected. Arsenal signed Zinchenko for the position, and the Ukrainian has interpreted the role in Mikel Arteta's system to perfection, keeping Tierney out of the squad.
Arteta has also, in some games when Zinchenko was unavailable, opted for right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu for the left-back position. The 25-year-old has only started four league games this season, and a move to Newcastle, who start 30-year-old Dan Burn in the position, could prove favourable to him.
Other Newcastle targets
Newcastle plan to continue their squad improvement following the PIF takeover, and along with Tierney, they have an interesting summer transfer wish list.
At the top of the list is James Maddison, who is keenly desired by Eddie Howe. The Magpies have already had multiple bids of up to £50 million turned down for the 26-year-old, but according to the Mirror, Newcastle plan to test Leicester's resolve again in the summer.
They are also reported to be monitoring the progress of Brighton's 18-year-old Irish striker Evan Ferguson, who has been likened to Newcastle and Premier League great Alan Shearer.
Alex Scott, a Bristol City midfielder who is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs, is also on their radar after Wolves failed to sign him in January.
