Darren Eales will continue to lead the club's executive team until a successor is selected.

Newcastle United announced on Friday that CEO Darren Eales will step down from his role due to a recent diagnosis of chronic blood cancer.

The news has caused despair through the club and its supporters, as Eales has been a pivotal figure in Newcastle’s resurgence since his arrival in July 2022.

Eales, 52, previously served as President and CEO of Atlanta United in Major League Soccer, where he played a crucial role in the team’s establishment and success.

His transition to Newcastle marked a new chapter for the club, which has enjoyed significant achievements during his tenure, including reaching its first domestic cup final in 24 years and securing a place in the Champions League last season.

Eales expressed pride in his time at Newcastle and the journey the club has embarked upon. “Being CEO of Newcastle United is an extraordinary privilege, and I am incredibly proud to be part of the club’s exciting journey,” he stated. “However, it has become apparent to me that now is the right time to make this decision so that I can prioritize my health and my family.”

Eales confirmed that he will continue to oversee the club’s executive team until a successor is appointed, ensuring a smooth transition in leadership.

He emphasized his commitment to maintaining the club’s operations during this period, highlighting the collaborative efforts that have contributed to Newcastle’s progress.

Newcastle prepares for the future starting with a game against Manchester City. Fans will be eager to see how Newcastle continues to build on its successes in the wake of Eales’ departure.
