Onyango, who scored eight league goals for Sofapaka last season, has opted to sign for the Brewers, turning down an opportunity to play continental football for Kenya Police.
New Tusker forward Jacob Onyango has revealed his reasons for turning down other offers, including a notable opportunity with Kenya Police, to join the Brewers.
Onyango, who scored eight goals in 15 league matches for Sofapaka last season and added another in the playoffs, became one of the most coveted young strikers in the league.
Initially, reports suggested that Onyango was poised to join Kenya Police as they prepared for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup. However, he has now become the second addition to Tusker’s squad during the off-season, as the club undergoes a significant rebuild.
“Tusker Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of striker Jacob Onyango from Sofapaka FC ahead of the 2024–25 season on a two-year contract. Jacob joins our club with a proven track record, making him a valuable addition to our squad,” read the statement on the club’s official website.
The statement continued, “Jacob, known for his clinical finishing and ability to create scoring opportunities, brings a new dimension to our attacking lineup.
His versatility and strong work ethic align perfectly with Tusker FC’s commitment to excellence both on and off the pitch. We extend our warmest welcome to Jacob Onyango and wish him every success in his journey with Tusker FC. Fans can look forward to seeing him in action soon as we prepare for an exciting season ahead.”

Jacob Onyango reflects season after his goalscoring heroics help Sofapaka claim crucial playoff win
Jacob Onyango, who is linked with a move to Kenya Police to replace Tito Okello, scored the only goal as Sofapaka beat Naivas 1-0 in the first leg of the FKFPL relegation playoff last Saturday.
Onyango expressed his excitement about joining the Brewers, explaining that after considering various options, he felt Tusker was the best fit for his career.
"I am thrilled to join Tusker FC, a club with a rich history and one that fights for titles every season. When I analyzed the options on my table, I knew this was the best move for my career. I look forward to contributing to the team’s success and achieving our collective goals at the end of the season,” he said.
Onyango becomes the second player to sign with Tusker this off-season, following Dennis Wanjala, who was acquired from Nairobi City Stars. Wanjala is set to replace Boniface ‘Kajos’ Onyango, while Levin Odhiambo joins from Gor Mahia.
With these strategic signings, Tusker FC aims to bolster their squad and compete strongly in the upcoming season, reinforcing their commitment to reclaiming the FKF Premier League title.
