New Kenya Police coach Etienne Ndayiragije has revealed the things he will work on to get Kenya Police back to winning ways after debut 1-0 loss to AFC Leopards.
Newly appointed Kenya Police head coach Etienne Ndayiragije has outlined the critical areas he plans to address after his team’s 1-0 loss to AFC Leopards on Sunday.
The Burundian tactician, known for his impressive coaching resume, takes charge of the team during a challenging season in which they sit at the bottom of the table, though they have three games in hand.
A solitary goal by Kennedy Owino handed Leopards all three points, further deepening Kenya Police’s struggles after eight games played. Despite this, Ndayiragije expressed optimism about the team's potential and highlighted the lessons he learned from his first game in charge.

Ex- Burundi and Tanzania coach Ndayiragije Etienne on why he accepted Kenya Police job
Ndayiragije Etienne was unveiled as Kenya Police's new coach on Saturday after the side parted ways with Anthony 'Modo' Kimani.
Reflecting on the match, Ndayiragije acknowledged his team’s shortcomings while appreciating the learning opportunity.
“The game was somehow balanced. We created chances to finish the game but wasted them. They got one which they capitalised on because of our lack of organisation, concentration, and confidence,” he said.
The coach admitted that the match provided valuable insights into his squad’s character and areas that require immediate attention.
“I have learnt a lot about my team because I did not know much about their character, but now I have seen a lot and will be working a lot on them to make the team improve,” he added.
Ndayiragije outlined a clear roadmap for transforming the team, focusing on three critical areas: mental strength, physical conditioning, and technical skills.
“We have to lift our mental strength to get a win. We can score goals, but they need to know they are here to improve,” Ndayiragije emphasized, pointing to the need for a winning mindset.
Highlighting a glaring deficiency, the coach remarked, “We need to improve our physical aspect, which is not good enough.”
The coach underscored the importance of better ball control and tactical discipline.
“Our technical aspect also needs a lot of work. They must learn how to retain the ball better, and if we work on those things, we will get back to winning ways,” he noted.
