The Talanta Hela All-Stars will be traveling to Tarragona, Spain for a two-week training camp that will also include a tournament, in a further step to their development.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has expressed excitement about Kenya’s deliberated new plan to have sustainable youth structures, something he says will go a long way in bettering the country’s football.

Ababu was speaking to the media following Rising Stars’ friendly match with the Talanta Hela U19 side, with the national team winning 3-1 in a game played at the Kasarani Annex on Monday afternoon.

Talanta Hela U19 is set to travel to Tarragona, Spain, this week, for a two-week training camp that will also include a tournament, in a further step to their development.

“It is really exciting. It is like planting a fruit tree and starting to see the fruits bear and give the promise of fruits,” Namwamba said afterwards.

“This is the only way to the top. There is no other way. There is no shortcut, there is no magic. The only way to the top is to invest in a robust, intentional, deliberate, and structured youth development program with that pathway going all the way to the grassroots.”

Namwamba says that the end game of the tournament is not just to compete, but to create a pathway where the talent can be exposed at a bigger stage, and offer them an opportunity to take on their careers.

“It is not just about playing a tournament and awarding winners. This is part of our plan to build a big national talent pool,” he said as quoted by Capital Sports.

The team is set to depart the country by Saturday, according to the Kenya Academy of Sports Chief Executive Officer Doreen Odhiambo.
