Sports CS Ababau Namwamba has insisted that the FKF elections must take place in accordance with the law after the federation rolled out the roadmap for this year's polls
Sports CS Ababu Namwamba insists that the government will closely follow the developments of the forthcoming Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections after the National Executive Council (NEC) confirmed that the elections would be taking place this year.
On Jan 7, 2024, the (NEC) held a meeting at the Goal Project office in Kasarani, Nairobi and confirmed that elections would be held later this year.
The council also confirmed that the elections would be held as per FKF Electoral Code (2020) which was used in the last elections in 2020.

Football Kenya Federation finally set in the motion the roadmap to the upcoming elections but what will those seeking to unseat Nick Mwendwa need for them to be on the ballot?
Namwamba appeared to fully agree with the decision to conduct the elections in accordance to the law, further saying that the government would see to it that the interest all sports is protected.
“You have independence, you have a mandate under your constitutions but the government has overall responsibility to protect Kenyan sports,” Namwamba said.
“So we advise the Football Kenya Federation to go to the polls this year. We advise them to make sure that as we go to the polls, make sure the polls are in sync with the law.”
The FKF seat has attracted interest from former FKF president Sam Nyamweya, Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohammed, former Harambee Stars midfielders Sammy Owino ‘Kempes’ and McDonald Mariga, Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ocholla and former Nyanza NEC member Tom Alila.

But all of them must be ready to face stiff competition from the incumbent Nick Mwendwa.
Mwendwa, who is currently in his second term as the head of the federation, was re-elected in 2020, emerging victorious after garnering 77 out of 85 votes.
However, the football leader has remained tight-lipped about his intentions, leaving the football community in a state of uncertainty.
In September, Namwamba had declared that FKF elections must be held in February 2024, emphasizing that it is non-negotiable.
