Businessman and Nakivubo Stadium developer Hamis Kiggundu, who confessed the facility is a 20,000 seater, also stressed it will be ready for use before the end of this year.

"We had so many challenges as we started out this job, as you are all aware, but God is great we have reached this stage," Kiggundu told the media in a recent engagement.

"I can assure everyone that the stadium that can seat 20,000 people is almost ready for use.”

"And, we have hope that by the end of this year, it will be ready, and Ugandans will be using it, and also our team (Uganda Cranes) will be hosting matches here,” he added.

The 20,000-mark makes Nakivubo one of the biggest stadiums in the country after Namboole Stadium, whose capacity will be around 45,000 upon completion of the renovation works.

Privately owned St. Mary's Stadium Kitende is reported to hold a capacity between 15,000 and 25,000 in the region.

Nakivubo Stadium has recently been approved to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, albeit as a training facility.

This is in addition to St. Mary's Stadium, Kitende (training facility), and Namboole, which were both fronted as Uganda, along with Kenya and Tanzania, won the bid to host the 2027 AFCON.
