Otieno, who was drafted in as a replacement for Kenneth Muguna, has admitted at being surprised by Harambee Stars call up.
Nairobi City Stars midfielder Clifford Ouma is reveling in what he calls “the best thing in his career” after receiving a late call-up to the Harambee Stars squad for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
The young talent, who was initially startled by the unexpected invitation having been drafted in as a replacement for the injured Kenneth Muguna, now sees this opportunity as a high point in his football journey.
Reflecting on the call-up, Ouma shared his surprise and joy. “I feel great because this is the most incredible event that has ever happened in my football career. I've been working hard, and to be honest, I didn't expect to be called up so soon,” he told Mozzart Sport.

Engin Firat drafts on-fire Tusker forward Ryan Ogam into Harambee Stars set up as charges seek revival against South Sudan
Firat has called up Ryan Ogam to the Harambee Stars set up as they prepare for their return leg fixture against South Sudan in the 2025 CHAN qualifiers.
Ouma's inclusion comes as the national team seeks redemption following a 2-0 loss to South Sudan in the opening leg held on October 27 at Juba Stadium.
The Harambee Stars will now prepare for the second leg, set to take place on November 3 at Uganda’s Mandela National Stadium. For Ouma, this match could also mark his debut in the national jersey, and he's eager to make the most of the opportunity.
The former Migori Youth captain admitted he was caught off guard by the news, especially given the challenging season his club, Nairobi City Stars, has been experiencing.
Sitting just above the relegation zone six matches into the season, Ouma expressed his astonishment at the call-up: “I was so surprised when I received the phone call to join the team considering how substandard we have been doing in the league at club level.”
Despite the struggles of his club, Ouma believes that his stellar performances during the 2023–24 season may have influenced the national team coach’s decision.
Last season, Nairobi City Stars, also known as Simba wa Nairobi, secured a respectable sixth-place finish in the league, with Ouma playing a crucial role in the team’s success.
“I believe the national team coach considered my services based on my performance in the previous season. I was at my best and participated in all of the club's matches,” he explained.
With Kenya automatically qualified for the tournament as co-hosts alongside Uganda and Tanzania, Ouma is hopeful that his journey with the national team will continue beyond these qualifiers.
For now, he is focused on making a strong impression in the second leg against South Sudan and seizing this career-defining moment.
