Osano has struggled to replicate his brilliant form from the voided 2022/23 league season, which has made Nicholas Muyoti relegate him to a place on the bench.

Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti has challenged keeper Jacob Osano to fight for his place back in the team by showing the right attitude and commitment to the course.

Osano was destined to move to Ethiopian Premier Leagues side Ethiopian Coffee last September, but the move never materialized after failing his trial there.

He had a stellar first season in the Kenyan top flight and went on to register 13 clean sheets. That made him a man on demand and  as a result, got scouted by a number of local and foreign clubs.

He has struggled for form ever since the move, and has not played for the club since their 4-2 loss to Kenya Police in April.

“It was a big disappointment when he failed to move to Ethiopia but he is a very good keeper,” he said, “With keepers, you need to have confidence, you cannot be at 100 percent,” he added.

“He needed a break. He is still doing a very good job in training and we just hope that Osano will get in the right frame of mind during the break in order to be able to come back into the game.”

“We also have a third keeper and I think it is important to have a keeper standing between the posts and producing excellent performances and also challenges Osano and (Elvis) Ochoro and deserves to be there.”

The former Kenyan international has challenged Osano to stay ready for future challenges, as the window of opportunity may arise yet again for the custodian.

“You never know about tomorrow because your chance might come and if you are not learning from what Steven (Njunge)  is doing, when you get your chance, you might not do well and fail to play as a result.

“I am however happy that these are keepers willing to learn from each other and as you can see, they are working as a team. When Steve came into the team, Osano gave him very good support and basically, that is what we need in the team.”

Nairobi City Stars will face Talanta on Wednesday before finishing their season with a meeting against potential champions Gor Mahia on Sunday.
