Asaph Mwebaze has vowed to guide new club Mbale Heroes back to the Uganda Premier League (UPL) following his confirmation as the club’s head coach.
after their triumphant promotion from the third division.
The FUFA Big League outfit, freshly promoted from the third division, harbours dreams of spending just one season in the second division before securing a place in the top flight.
Mbale Heroes have undergone several coaching changes, including the likes of Hassan Zungu, Peter Onen, and Simon Dungu, before zeroing in on Mwebaze as the man to lead their charge.
Mwebaze, a CAF B tactician, was unveiled as the head coach in Mbale amid great expectations.

Recognizing the historical significance and weight of the task ahead, he articulated his vision for the club.
"This is a big club with a big history, and I am here to try to put the club where it is supposed to be," remarked the coach during his unveiling.

“It’s been more than 15 years without topflight football and we are going to work very hard to return the club to greater heights,” Mwebaze promised.

“The leaders of Mbale Heroes presented an ambitious project to me, which greatly intrigued me and influenced my decision to join the club.
“Their goal is to successfully elevate this team back to the topflight football.”
Mwebaze called upon the fans to rally behind the team in large numbers, encouraging them to bring their families to Mbale Stadium to create memorable experiences.
“We are dedicated as coaches and staff to make sure we provide entertainment and also good results,” the coach remarked.
“We encourage the fans to come in big numbers. Let them bring their families so that whoever comes to Mbale has an experience to tell the rest of the world.”

The fans in Mbale welcomed the coach warmly, further fueling their enthusiasm for the season ahead.
Mwebaze's convincing 4-1 victory against Amus College in a friendly match at Mbale Stadium on Friday evening only added to the growing optimism.
However, the real test for Mwebaze and his squad is set for September 26th, when they face off against their city rivals, Kataka FC, in the league opener at Mbale Stadium.

A full-capacity stadium and an exhilarating clash await, and Mwebaze will hope his players can hit the ground running.
Mwebaze brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously coached teams like Bright Stars FC, Maroons FC, Onduparaka FC, and Nyamityobora FC.
His tenure with Maroons FC was particularly noteworthy, as he guided the team to UPL promotion three times, each time as champions – in 2007 after 20 years, 2010, and 2015.
Last season, he helped Bright Stars to a ninth place finish in the Uganda Premier League, while they also reached the semi finals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
