Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic questions Manchester United's transfer dealing.

Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has criticised the club's decision to sell Scott McTominay, suggesting that the Scotsman is the type of player the Red Devils leadership should have fought to keep.

McTominay joins Napoli

The 27-year-old came through the ranks at Carrington and was given his breakthrough by Jose Mourinho. He thrived under the Portuguese, even winning a Mourinho personally-issued award.

However, he has not had the best time at the club following the 61-year-old’s sack. Not until last season at least, when he showed incredible goal-scoring prowess for club and country. He scored 10 goals in all competitions for Manchester United last term and was among the top scorers in the Euro qualifiers for Scotland.

He has been linked with a move away from the club in multiple transfer windows, with clubs like West Ham actively making a move for him. The imminent exit has now been actualised, as he joined Napoli this summer transfer window for a reported €30 million fee.

Matic criticised Tominay’s sale

Matic, another midfield favourite of Jose Mourinho's, was left disillusioned by the Red Devil’s decision to sell a player who, in his opinion, is of inestimable value. He also praised Conte’s decision to snap up McTominay's, as Napoli acted at the Italian's behest.

“My opinion is that #Manutd made a mistake by selling Scott McTominay, today it is difficult to replace a player like him. Conte is smart man,” Matic tweeted on his X account.
