Nantes boss Antoine Kombouare could not hide his displeasure at his team's performance against Auxerre in their latest Ligue 1 loss
Nantes manager Antoine Kombouare did not pull his punches when criticizing his team’s performance and attitude in their 2-1 loss to Auxerre in Ligue 1.
Nantes in danger of relegation after Auxerre loss
Nantes fell to yet another league defeat at Auxerre after goals from Jubal and Nuno Da Costa helped AJA to a win over Les Canaris to leapfrog them on the table and send pulses racing in the camp of the reigning Coupe de France champions.
Nantes find themselves surely in a relegation battle despite a mid-season flourish, and they now find themselves 15th in the Ligue 1 table on 31 points, only two points away from Strasbourg in the final relegation spot for this season.

Kombouare’s men have failed to win in their last eight fixtures in the league and have lost five of those as their freefall into danger picks up steam.
The French head coach was incensed about his team’s recent performances, claiming that the players were playing a cruel joke on the club with their attitudes.
Nantes manager rips into team for poor attitude
According to Kombouare, the players at the club are of a high standard, as evidenced by their performances in other competitions this season, but they have refused to show the same enthusiasm in the league, leading to a dangerous situation.
Speaking after the loss to Auxerre, Kombouare tore into the squad saying, “Today, the players are not concerned about staying up.
“We’re in the round of 16 of the Europa League, we’re going to the Stade de France in two weeks [for the final of the Coupe de France]. But they [the players] prefer us to be in the sh*t, to be 17th, to wake up.”
The French manager said he would play along with the club players’ cruel joke and welcomed the pressure of a relegation battle, saying, “I’m up for it. They like to play with pressure, so let’s laugh.
Finally, he spoke on the state of the team, saying the players were proving that they were far from a good team with their performances.
Today, I hear the Auxerre fans saying that we have a good team,” he said, before continuing, “but no, we’re a shit team.”
Nantes face Troyes, another team battling to stay in Ligue 1 this season, and they will hope that they can end their streak of poor results with a win.
