Marseille have landed one of the best performers at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Olympique Marseille have officially announced the signing of 22-year-old Azzedine Ounahi from Angers.
The Moroccan World Cup star was subject to much transfer interest, after the exceptional tournament he had with Morocco at Qatar 2022, which saw them become the first African country to break the quarter-final ceiling.
Ounahi to Marseille
Marseille have announced the acquisition of Ounahi from fellow Ligue 1 side Angers on a four-and-a-half-year contract, following a successful medical with the club.
The French giants did not disclose the transfer fee, but transfer specialist, Fabrizio Romano, reports it to be a €10 million package, €8 million guaranteed fee, and €2 million in add-ons.
Ounahi would wear the number 8 jersey for Igor Tudor’s side and would be immediately integrated into the team.
Ounahi could make his debut for Marseille when they go away to Nantes on February 2nd. The Stade Velodrome would get the chance to see their new boy when Marseille host OGC Nice on February 5th.
Marseille get a gem
Ounahi played all seven of Morocco’s games at Qatar 2022, of which he was a starter in six of them.
The youngster performed exceptionally well, including dominant performances against football giants Portugal and Spain.
His level of play at the tournament made him attractive to many big European clubs, a talent Angers saw when they acquired him from US Avranches in the summer of 2021.
Ounahi has played 22 times for Morocco already, after only making his debut last year. He featured for Morocco at the AFCON and the World Cup.
