The deadly magnitude 6.8 quake has reportedly claimed over 2,000 lives in the Atlas Mountains.

CAF has postponed the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Morocco and Liberia after a deadly earthquake hit the North African nation on Friday night.

Morocco was set to play Liberia in the final qualifier on Saturday but the match will now be played at a future date.

The match was just a mere formality as Morocco and South Africa sealed their qualification in Group K before the final day.

The deadly magnitude 6.8 quake has reportedly claimed over 2,000 lives in the Atlas Mountains.

“CAF has agreed to postpone the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023 Qualifier match between Morocco and Liberia following the earthquake in Morocco,” CAF noted before relaying their condolences to the people of Morocco;

“CAF expresses its condolences to the families who lost their loved ones, the Fédération Royale de Football and the people of Morocco.”

CAF has ordered a moment of silence before the start of the remaining qualifiers.
