Connor Gallagher's move to Atletico Madrid has reportedly fallen through and it could have ripple effects on Chelsea's summer transfers

Chelsea’s summer transfer window has taken another dramatic turn as Atletico Madrid reportedly pulled the plug on midfielder Conor Gallagher’s transfer.

The move comes in the wake of complications surrounding Nigeria-eligible striker Samu Omorodion’s expected switch to Chelsea, which has also collapsed.

Omorodion and Gallagher deals fall apart

Atletico Madrid had initially agreed to send Samu Omorodion to Chelsea in a deal worth £36 million, but late complications led to the deal falling through.

This development had a ripple effect on Gallagher’s potential move to Atletico, as the LaLiga giants were relying on the funds from the youngster’s sale to finance their pursuit of Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.

Talks between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea had been progressing well, with Chelsea reportedly accepting a £33 million offer for Gallagher. However, the collapse of the Omorodion deal has now prompted Atletico to withdraw from the agreement, leaving Gallagher's future in limbo.

Chelsea hope to reignite talks for another Atletico Madrid star

With the Gallagher and Omorodion deals off the table, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are now exploring other options, one of which could involve Joao Felix returning to Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis.

Joao Felix in action for Chelsea

Felix, who spent the latter half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Chelsea, had mixed success during his time in London, but the Portugal international remains a fan favourite among the Blues supporters.

Felix’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has reportedly been in discussions with Chelsea over a potential £43 million transfer for the versatile ex-Barcelona attacker, and he was seen at Stamford Bridge during Chelsea’s 1-1 pre-season friendly with Inter Milan.

While Felix’s return to Chelsea appears to be in motion, the club remains keen on bolstering their attack further, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen also on their radar.
