Mohammed Bajaber: The stats that prove Kenya Police FC were right to pay Ksh1 million for him

Kenya Police raised eyebrows when it was reported that they paid Ksh1 million for Mohammed Bajaber but the player is proving to be worth every penny.

Mohammed Bajaber might have been a revelation for Harambee Stars but for his club Kenya Police, he is already a star.

Bajaber endeared himself to Kenyan football fans after his stunning goal for Harambee Stars against The Gambia after coming on as a second half substitute as Benni McCarthy’s team fought back to draw 3-3 and that earned him a place in the starting XI as they lost 2-1 to Gabon in the next match in Nairobi.

To many fans, Bajaber has come to prominence during the March international window, but before that, he had already been paying back the huge sum that his new club shelled out for him in the midseason transfer window.

Bajaber left Nairobi City Stars in February for a reported Ksh1 million for big-spending Police and made an immediate impact.

By the time he was scoring that beautiful goal in national team colours, he had already netted three in four games for his new employers.

Bajaber made his Police debut on February 15 and it was an instant impact, scoring the first goal as they beat Bidco United 2-0. He netted in the 70th minute before David Simiyu made the points safe three minutes later.

Police would lose their next match, a shock 1-0 loss to Mathare United on February 20, before a goalless draw against AFC Leopards on March 4.

Their next game saw the attacking midfielder show his qualities again, scoring twice as they beat Murang’a Seal 3-1 on March 15, before he joined the Harambee Stars camp.

Bajaber opened the scoring in the 16th minute before David Irishura made it 2-0 in the 38th minute but the visitors pulled one back on the stroke of halftime after which the young forward made the points safe with his brace in the 70th minute.

After the international break and now a celebrity, thanks to his national team heroics, Bajaber was at it again on Sunday as he scored the only goal for Police in their 1-0 win over Posta Rangers to retain their place at the top of the table.

The law enforcers are on 48 points from 25 matches, one ahead of second-placed Tusker FC, and will be thankful for their new talisman as he has played a hand in nine of the 10 points they have collected since his signing.

Police will hope that Bajaber does not slow down and fires them to a maiden league title but that will also mean a battle to keep hold of him as he will put himself in the shop window for clubs abroad.
