Harambee Stars midfielder endured an unfortunate night although Elfsborg salvaged a 1-1 draw with Braga in the Europa league on Thursday night.

Harambee Stars midfielder Timothy Ouma endured a mixed night in Elfsborg’s 1-1 draw with Braga in their UEFA Europa League group stage clash held in Sweden.

Despite a commendable performance across the pitch, Ouma accidentally directed a free-kick into his own net, giving Braga a second-half lead.

However, Elfsborg managed to equalize late in the game, leaving both teams with a share of the points.

Ouma, who played the full 90 minutes, was otherwise a key figure in midfield. He won five of his nine ground duels, completed five tackles and interceptions, and succeeded in two of his three dribbles. His defensive contributions helped Elfsborg hold off Braga’s relentless attacks for much of the game.

The game began with high intensity as Elfsborg, pushing forward through Simon Hedlund and Arber Zeneli, attempted to pressure Braga’s defense right from kickoff.

The Swedish side created an early chance, but Braga, looking composed, managed to clear the danger. Braga quickly seized control, dominating possession and probing Elfsborg's defense, particularly through wing play on their left side. Yet Elfsborg’s defense remained resilient, and as the game settled, they began to pose a threat of their own.

Midway through the first half, Elfsborg found a rhythm, winning balls in midfield thanks to Ouma and Andri Baldursson. Although their swift counterattacks tested Braga’s defense, clear chances remained scarce

. Towards the close of the first half, Braga resumed control, patiently circulating the ball while testing Elfsborg’s defensive organization.

The second half saw Braga maintain their territorial advantage, forcing Elfsborg into their own half. Despite Braga's repeated attempts, they struggled to break down Elfsborg’s disciplined defense.

However, in the 67th minute, Braga’s pressure finally paid off. A well-struck free-kick struck Ouma, resulting in an unfortunate deflection that sent the ball into his own net.

Following Braga’s goal, Elfsborg regrouped and intensified their efforts. Manager Oscar Hiljemark injected fresh energy by substituting his front three with Emil Holten, Gottfrid Rapp, and Rami Kaib, a decision that immediately paid dividends.

In the 84th minute, Rapp skillfully advanced down the right flank, delivering a low cross to Holten, who slotted it home to bring Elfsborg level.

In the closing minutes, Elfsborg launched several attacks in search of a winner, creating dangerous opportunities in the box. However, Braga’s defense remained firm, clearing the ball repeatedly until the final whistle.

While Ouma's own goal was a difficult moment, his performance otherwise demonstrated his value to Elfsborg, showcasing a mix of defensive prowess and skillful ball control that helped his side secure a crucial point in their Europa League campaign.
