The 27-year-old was not deployed by Pontsho Moloi in their Botswana Premier League encounter with Gunners over the weekend.

Former hotshot Ulinzi Stars striker John Mark Makwatta was relegated to the bench as Gaborone United thrashed Extension Gunners 3-1 in the Botswana Premier League on Sunday.

Thero Setsile scored to put the Money Machine in front before adding his second at the stroke of halftime.

However, eight minutes after the restart, Boemo Lekorwe pulled one back for the Gunners, but Substitute Mpho Kgaswane made it 3-1 at the hour mark.

Makwatta's compatriot and team-mate Duncan Otieno impressed as he played 90 minutes. He was lively in the first stanza of the encounter and nearly created a chance for the visitors at the half-hour mark.

"We are happy with the win, we could have scored more. We are coming from the international break which comes with some uncertainities but the boys did well. We had few players out with injuries but I am happy with the way those available performed," said head coach Pontsho Moloi.

The result leaves Gaborone United in second position on the standings, while Extension Gunners sit second from the bottom on the log.

Makwatta was expected to be involved in Pontsho Moloi's squad again despite his struggles in front of goal, having gone without finding the back of the net for the club in over six matches.

The 27-year-old was, however, a surprise omission when the matchday line-up was announced, the manager instead opted for 24-year-old Botswana international Tsepo Malgas.

It was even more surprising that the Kenyan, who had started in all but one of Gaborone's 10 Premier League games before the Gunners meeting, failed to get onto the pitch during 90 minutes; instead, he saw the match out from the bench.
