Barcelona could go within two points off the top of LaLiga with a win against Chidera Ejuke and his Sevilla side

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has stirred the LaLiga title race conversation by declaring Barcelona the best team in the league.

His comments came in the aftermath of a tense Madrid derby that ended in a 1-1 draw, which gave the Blaugrana a golden opportunity to gain ground in the title race.

Simeone praises Barcelona’s strengths

With Real Madrid and Atletico sharing the spoils, Barcelona can move within touching distance of the league leaders if they secure a win against Sevilla.

Following the draw at the Santiago Bernabeu, which saw Kylian Mbappe cancel out Julian Alvarez's controversial penalty opener, Simeone did not hesitate to lavish praise on Barcelona.

The Argentine manager was clear in his stance that the Catalan giants are the team to beat in LaLiga, saying, "I still insist that Barcelona is the best team in La Liga. They attack very well, they have incredible speed in their players, and they play very well as a team.”

His words raise eyebrows, considering Barcelona have not been at their dominant best this season. However, with a chance to move just two points behind Real Madrid with a victory over Sevilla, they remain firmly in the hunt for the league crown.

Madrid derby hands Barcelona advantage

The Madrid derby was expected to be a fiery encounter, but it ultimately failed to live up to expectations.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid set for the second derby this season.

Despite the high stakes, neither team displayed the urgency to take full control of the title race, allowing Barcelona to become the biggest beneficiaries of the night.

While Simeone's comments may be genuine, they could also be a strategic move to deflect pressure from his team and shift focus onto Barcelona and with all three teams still in contention, every psychological advantage matters.

As LaLiga heads into a crucial phase, Barcelona will have the chance to prove Simeone’s words right—or wrong—when they take on Sevilla by taking full advantage of the opportunity handed to them by their Madrid rivals.
