The U-20 national football team was hosted by Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen who rewarded the Rising Star for their display in the just concludedU-20 AFCON CECAFA qualifiers in Tanzania
In recognition of their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Under-20 (AFCON), the Rising Stars have been awarded Sh1.8 million by the Ministry of Sports.
This comes after their stellar performance during the U-20 AFCON-CECAFA qualifiers, despite a 2-1 loss to Tanzania in the final at the KMC Stadium last Sunday.
The Rising Stars’ efforts were still enough to secure their spot in the prestigious continental tournament.
A special celebration to honor the team was hosted by the Cabinet Secretary for Sports at the Talanta Plaza rooftop on Tuesday, October 22.

Rising stars goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala confident of World Cup push despite CECAFA final setback
Wanzala, who won the goalkeeper of the tournament award, has revealed the side's ambition at the upcoming U-20 AFCON, having sealed qualification for the tournament despite losing the CECAFA qualifying final to Tanzania on Sunday.
The CS praised the team for their resilience and determination, emphasizing that their achievement marked a major milestone for Kenyan football.
In his address, CS Kipchumba Murkomen assured the players of the government’s full support as they prepare for the tournament.
He committed to providing resources necessary for their successful participation in the AFCON, including plans for an international training camp.
"Unlike in the past, national teams are now fully supported financially for international competitions, ensuring they focus solely on performance without logistical concerns," stated Murkomen.
"Preparations for AFCON 2025 will begin immediately, including extended training camps, both locally and abroad, and friendlies with top-tier teams. Our sights are not just set on AFCON glory but also qualifying for the U-20 FIFA World Cup," he assured.
The Rising Stars' journey to the U-20 AFCON debut has reignited hope in the future of Kenyan football.
The upcoming tournament is seen as an opportunity for the young players to showcase their talent on a continental stage, furthering their development and potentially opening doors to international opportunities.
