Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has been honoured by the Kenyan Embassy in Doha following his record-breaking feat at his Qatari club Al Duhail.
Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga may have broken the scoring record for his club Al Duhail one month ago but the accolades keep coming.
Olunga became Al Duhail’s all-time top scorer after reaching 121 goals for the club in early November during his club’s 6-2 demolition of Al Shamal, when he also provided a late assist.
That has seen him hailed for his ruthless streak in front of goal with the club and the Qatar Stars League rewarding him for his historic feat.

Michael Olunga dominates as Al Duhail secure spot in QSL Cup Final
Michael Olunga provided two assists as Al Duhail overcame Al Wakra in the QSL Cup semi final on Friday.
Now, he has been recognised ‘home away from home’ after the Kenyan Embassy in Doha also awarded him for breaking the record that has taken him just three years to achieve.
“The Kenyan Embassy led by Amb Mohd Noor Aden awarded #Qatar based @Harambee__Stars Capt @OgadaOlunga, for his record as @DuhailSC’s all-time leading scorer. Olunga’s success exemplifies the talent & potential of Kenyan athletes, bringing pride to our nation on the global stage,” the Embassy said via a social media post.
Olunga was presented with a special trophy for his record-breaking achievement as his country celebrated him for being a good ambassador abroad.
The striker joined Al Duhail in January 2021 from Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol and hit the ground running, leading the scoring charts in the Qatari league both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, while he was hampered by injuries and missed out on the Golden Boot in 2023-24, although he was still his club’s leading scorer.
Olunga has similarly started this season well as he has eight league goals for Al Duhail who are top of the table on 25 points, three more than champions Al Sadd after 11 matches.
The 30-year-old was dominant for his side on Friday as he provided two assists in their 3-1 extra-time victory over Al Wakra when they secured a spot in the final of the Qatar Stars Cup.
