Olunga was back in the scoresheet for Al Duhail on return to club duty following Kenya's narrow 1-0 loss to Cameroon last Monday.
Harambee Stars forward Michael Olunga's crucial 42nd-minute diving header secured a 1-0 victory for Al Duhail over Al Ahli at the Al Thumama Stadium, propelling his team to a four-point lead at the summit of the Qatar Stars League.
The Kenyan striker's decisive goal came after a well-timed cross from Edmilson Junior, allowing Al Duhail to bounce back from their previous loss to Al Shahania.
Olunga had narrowly missed an earlier opportunity in the 10th minute when his header went just wide. However, he redeemed himself before halftime with a brilliantly executed diving header that caught Al Ahli’s defense off-guard, giving Duhail the advantage.

'A big privilege' - Gor Mahia midfield maestro Austine Odhiambo reflects on Harambee Stars journey
Odhiambo, who was named the 2023/2024 FKF Premier League Most Valuable Player, has revealed what representing harambee Stars means for him
.Meanwhile, Al Ahli pushed hard for an equalizer, with Idrissa Doumbin coming close in the 65th minute after a strong build-up play by Sekou. However, his effort went just wide.
Despite Al Ahli's relentless pressure, Duhail's defense stood firm, and Olunga's goal remained the difference as the match concluded. The win not only extended Al Duhail’s lead over Al Ahli to four points but also widened the gap to six points over their arch-rivals and defending champions, Al Sadd.
During the just concluded international window, Olunga was particularly at fault for missing three big chances to score during Harambee Stars’ narrow 1-0 AFCON 2025 qualifying loss to Cameroon.
He had found the back of the net during the first leg 4-1 defeat to the Indomitable Lions in Yaounde. He will be hoping he can even get more efficient in order to be sharp in time for Stars’ must-win November fixtures against Zimbabwe and Namibia.
