Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga comes into the November AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Namibia in fine form which should give coach Engin Firat plenty of hope.

Harambee Stars have touched down in South Africa ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Kenya face Zimbabwe at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday before a clash with Namibia four days later and must win both matches, hoping that results elsewhere go their way, to qualify.

While it is a difficult task, the form of captain Michael Olunga must be giving coach Engin Firat optimism that his team will get the wins they need.

Olunga comes into the matches in fine form after scoring in his last five games for his club Al Duhail.

Goals against Al Sadd, Al Shahania, Al Ahli, Al Gharafa and Al Shamal have been crucial to Al Duhail's rise to the top of the Qatar Stars League table, where they enjoy a four-point lead.

Olunga, meanwhile, is joint top on the top scorers’ charts with eight goals and comes into the qualifiers as the most in-form player within the Harambee Stars setup.

Zimbabwe is a team he knows too well after bagging a hat-trick when Kenya beat them 3-1 in the Four Nations tournament in March and after missing the September match that ended goalless, he must be itching to get in on the action.

Kenya suffered back-to-back losses to Cameroon last month, although Olunga was on target in the 4-1 away defeat, but fans will be hoping that he does not lose his scoring touch given the manner he fluffed his lines in the return match against the Indomitable Lions.

The striker's good run in front of goal is therefore a cause for optimism for the national team which will need talent, will and confidence to accomplish the task ahead.
