Harambee Stars captain looks ready for next month’s double header between Kenya and Cameroon after scoring his fifth goal in four games for his club Al Duhail.
Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga has maintained his hot streak in front of goal after scoring his fifth goal in four matches during Al Duhail’s 2-1 loss to Al Shahania on Friday.
Olunga, who returned to action last week after an injury had kept him out of international duty early this month, has wasted no time to make his presence felt as he scored Al Duhail’s consolation in the 74th minute on Friday after his side had gone down 2-0 inside 32 minutes.
Al Shahania had Dutch midfielder Pelle van Amersfoort to thank as he scored in the 20th and 32nd minutes but Olunga gave Al Duhail hope 16 minutes from time when he powered home a header but Christophe Galtier’s men could not find the leveler.
While Al Duhail suffered defeat, it was good news for Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat as his main striker looks sharp and ready for the upcoming double header against African giants Cameroon.
Harambee Stars face the Indomitable Lions in Yaounde on October 11, before hosting the five-time African champions five days later, and whoever collects more points from the two matches will move top of their qualifying group for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which also has Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Kenya dearly missed Olunga, especially in the first game against Zimbabwe, where Firat opted to start without striker before they fired blanks to end the game 0-0. Harambee Stars would secure a 2-1 win over Namibia to move joint top of the group on four points, same as Cameroon.
