Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) is set to acquire a struggling NSL team aiming to transform it with significant financial and strategic input.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga, through his Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA), is on the brink of acquiring National Super League (NSL) outfit Rainbow FC.

This move comes just weeks after Olunga's bid to buy a Swedish third-tier team faced rejection.

Rainbow FC have faced financial challenges that have hindered their operations making them a viable target for acquisition.

The club, which was promoted to the second tier last year, has struggled to keep up with financial demands, often traveling with less than a full squad for numerous matches.

“We will be playing in the National Super League. We have an agreement with Rainbow, and once everything is complete, we will share the details,” a source was quoted by local publication, MozzartSport.

The imminent acquisition is poised not just to salvage Rainbow FC but to rebrand it entirely under the MOFA banner.

Olunga's academy entered the local football scene two years ago by taking over Sindo United's slot in the third tier.

Despite a rocky start, the team showed marked improvement under the stewardship of coach Kassim Otieno reaching the FKF Division One promotion playoffs last season.

The failed attempt to secure the Swedish club last month has not deterred Olunga from his commitment to investing in football.

The striker was ready to inject Ksh 50 million into the financially troubled Swedish club through MOFA but the proposal was ultimately rejected by the club's board.

This acquisition is expected to provide a much-needed lifeline for Rainbow FC, ensuring the club meets its financial obligations and stabilizes its position in Kenyan football.

Olunga's venture into club ownership and management could redefine the future of football in Kenya.

By injecting capital, expertise, and a new vision, Olunga is set to influence the game profoundly, offering hope and opportunities where they are most needed.
