The 22-year-old man is bound for Bayern Munich, but why did the Blues lose out on the highly regarded youngster?

Several clubs battled for the 22-year-old’s signature, including former club Chelsea, Newcastle United and Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern, but Olise has chosen the Bavarians.

Barring any late setbacks, the Frenchman will move to the Allianz Arena after three seasons in South London.

Why did Chelsea opt out of signing Olise?

Moments before the player’s Bayern preference was disclosed, Chelsea pulled out of the contention for the wide playmaker’s signature.

According to The Athletic, the West London club's inclination under the new ownership to have a healthier wage bill meant they deemed the deal out of their reach.

The report claims Chelsea made what they thought was their best offer, but it was insufficient to get the deal over the line, thus leading to the London club’s withdrawal.

What comes next?

Chelsea will now move on to other targets after missing out on the player who came through their academy in his formative years.

The Blues are reportedly keen to add two attackers, with Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran or Atletico Madrid’s Samuel Omorodion — on loan at Alaves in the concluded season — tipped to be one of the potential arrivals.
