The Argentine's hat-trick ensured the South American nation finished top of the rankings in the South American World Cup qualifiers.

Argentina maintained their stay at the summit of the South America World Cup qualifiers rankings as Lionel Messi netted a hat-trick in the 6-0 demolition of Bolivia early this morning at the Estadio Monumental, Buenos Aires.

The Inter-Miami man kicked-off the onslaught with an early goal in the opening 20 minutes.

A beautiful solo effort on goal from the former Barcelona star put Argentina in the lead as he proceeded to assist Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez who added to Bolivia’s woes with strikes of their own for a 3-0 lead going into the break.

Thiago Almada scored the fourth in 69th minute before the dangerous Messi topped of his world-class performance with two beautiful strikes in the 84th and the 86th minute to sink Bolivia.

The result left Argentina comfortably on top of the log for South America World Cup qualifiers with 22 points in 10 matches played having won 7, drawn 1, and lost 2.

They are trailed by Colombia in second place with 19 points as Uruguay and Brazil are placed third and fourth respectively both with 16 points.

Messi has been impressive for the world champions in the competition having netted 6 and assisted 2 in 7 matches played.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has been just as impressive for club Inter-Miami having netted 17 goals and assisted 10 in 18 games.

The David Beckahm-owned side is at the summit of Major League soccer 71 points in 33 games, being trailed by Colombus on 63 points.

Messi’s Miami takes on New England on Sunday October 20 at the Chase stadium in league action after the international.
