Messi's father, Jorge, denied the rumours in a statement on Instagram, stating that "there is absolutely nothing with any club for next year."

Argentine superstar Lionel Messi will not be playing in Saudi Arabia next season, despite reports linking him to a move to the Middle East.

Messi's father, Jorge, denied the rumours in a statement on Instagram, stating that "there is absolutely nothing with any club for next year."

Reports earlier this week had suggested that a deal was done for Messi to join a Saudi club, with the 35-year-old in the process of finalizing details before signing a contract.

However, Jorge Messi made it clear that "the decision will never be made before Lionel finishes the league (season) with PSG."

Messi's contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs until June 30, 2023, and there will be no discussions about his future until after the season has ended.

According to a source close to Messi, he had received a formal offer to join the Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal next season, but a contract renewal at PSG was not on the cards.

This news has raised questions about the Argentine's future at the French club, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Messi's recent trip to Saudi Arabia caused controversy after he missed a PSG training session, resulting in the Ligue 1 side suspending him.

However, he returned to training on Monday and issued an apology to his teammates and the club. The suspension has now been lifted, and Messi is set to feature in PSG's upcoming fixtures.

The news of Messi potentially joining a Saudi club comes after the oil-rich nation appointed him as its tourism ambassador last year.

He visited Jeddah in May 2022 and returned in January to play a friendly match with PSG against a team of Saudi League stars, where he faced off against his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

If Messi were to sign for a Saudi club, he would potentially join Ronaldo in the Saudi league, with the Gulf state investing its oil wealth into sport.

However, at this point, all rumours about Messi's future remain just that – rumours.

In the meantime, Messi will be focusing on helping PSG win the Ligue 1 title – his second for the club. They are currently top of the standings on 78 points, six points ahead of second placed Lens with four games to play.

They host Ajaccio on Saturday, May 13, before travelling to Auxerre and Strasbourg and then hosting Clermont Foot in their final game of the season.

As for his future, only time will tell where the Argentine superstar will end up next season.
