Former FKF Premier League club Meru Bombers faces dire straits, seeks urgent takeover by capable party to resurrect its glory days.

In the world of Kenyan football, few clubs boast a history as rich and storied as that of Meru Bombers, formerly known as Mafuko Bombers.

Since its establishment in 1982, this National Division 2 side has experienced both triumph and tribulation, gracing the FKF Premier League on three occasions, with their last appearance dating back to 2002.

For the past seven years, Meru Bombers has been a formidable presence in the FKF Division II Eastern Zone. However, the 2023 season has proven to be an unrelenting test of the club's resilience, pushing them to the brink of despair.

The season started with promising hopes, but it quickly spiraled into a series of setbacks. Despite a valiant effort in the first leg, the club found itself grappling with numerous challenges during the second leg, threatening its very existence.

One major blow came in the form of a sponsorship agreement that failed to materialize, leaving the club heavily dependent on the support of a few well-wishers who have been their backbone over the past seven years.

"With this in mind and considering the significant place Meru Bombers holds in Kenya's football history and the hearts of the people of Meru, the current trustees have decided to call for a strategic intervention on the club," the club declared in a statement.

The proposed intervention encompasses a comprehensive handover of the club to any interested and capable party who can lead it to the heights of its potential.

The trustees are seeking an individual or group that possesses the resources, vision, and passion to breathe new life into Meru Bombers.

"We earnestly call upon any interested party to step forward for this crucial intervention, particularly our esteemed community and business Leaders," the club's current trustees statement added.

The call for assistance from the revered club carries with it the weight of a rich history and an ardent fan base.

As news of Meru Bombers' plea spreads, football enthusiasts and philanthropic figures alike are eagerly awaiting the outcome, hoping that the iconic club will soon rise from the ashes and reclaim its position of honor on the footballing stage.
