The veteran coach is looking to begin his reign on a positive note but has a tough match at home against giants Simba.
Former Sofapaka and Tusker coach Robert Matano is preparing for baptism by fire when he takes charge of his first match as coach of Tanzanian club Fountain Gate in a clash against Simba SC on Thursday.
Matano joined Fountain Gate three weeks ago after ditching Sofapaka for a new challenge in Tanzania and after getting to know his new players and surroundings, it is time for business.
The Kenyan tactician has a big job on his hands when Simba come visiting on Thursday and for a man nicknamed “The Lion,” taking on Simba will be an interesting meeting.

Sead Ramovic: The millions behind German coach's decision to quit Yanga after just 81 days
The tactician joined the Tanzanian giants in November 2024 but has now quit after receiving an irresistible offer from Algeria.
Simba will pose a big challenge for Matano’s men, who are sixth on the table, as they lead the league standings on 43 points and have been impressive under South African coach Fadlu Davids this season.
“I am excited for this game. I am known as “The Lion” and I am meeting Simba (Lion) so it will be an interesting and entertaining match. I have been watching Simba for many years and I had my friends coach there as well and I love watching them too,” Matano told Telecomasia.net.
“So, it is a team, I know really well. It is going to be a tough match. They are a big team and we respect them but we are also ready to defend our home turf and get a good result.”
Matano says he has seen a lot of positives in his team that gives him confidence that a positive result is possible against one of the giants of Tanzanian football.
“I have been with the team for three weeks now and I have worked hard to try and improve in every department,” he added.

Robert Matano makes shock departure from Sofapaka for Tanzania stint
The former Sofapaka coach Robert Matano has parted ways with the club to pursue a new opportunity in Tanzania.
“There are goals and targets we have set for ourselves and I am confident that by the time we come to the end of the season, we will be in a better place where the team can be proud of.”
Fountain Gate are low on confidence after losing their last three games and Matano has a big job of turning around their fortunes quickly.
A positive result against Simba can boost morale which they can use to revive their season.
