Kylian Mbappe has stated his plans for next season as rumours continue to connect him with a move to Real Madrid following Karim Benzema's exit
Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe has dropped a significant hint about his future after winning the Ligue 1 title at his current club, Paris Saint Germain.
Mbappe on Real Madrid’s radar after Benzema departure
The France international forward is seen as the perfect replacement for Real Madrid’s outgoing captain, Karim Benzema, who announced that he would be leaving Los Blancos after 14 years at the club.
Mbappe has been admired by Real Madrid for several seasons, with the Spanish giants coming close to signing him from PSG in 2022.
However, the France captain made a dramatic U-turn to sign a two-year contract with Les Parisiens, reportedly betraying an agreement he had with Los Blancos.
With the 24-year-old forward back in Real Madrid’s sights after Benzema’s departure, he has given a significant hint as to where he will be playing next season, with comments he made after PSG’s last game of the season.
Mbappe reveals plans for next season
Mbappe finished as the 2022/23 Ligue 1 season’s top scorer with 29 goals, and when asked about his plans for the future, he said he wanted to repeat the feat next season.
"My top scorer award? I'm very happy,” Mbappe said, before continuing, “We've won the championship. I'm still top scorer and top player. So that's great.
"It's true that it was at the end of the season, when we'd won the title, that it was a personal goal and I've achieved it.
"I'm going down in history and I'm happy. But I still have next year to beat Jean-Pierre Papin."
Mbappe has been the top scorer five times in Ligue 1, equal with Papin, and both players hold the record for the most French top-division golden boots, but the PSG forward apparently has decided that he wants to stay in France to become the outright holder of the most awards.
