PSG star Kylian Mbappe believes the team can get a victory at the Allianz Arena and qualify against Bayern Munich
Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe still believes the Ligue 1 side can overturn the deficit from their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg tie and beat Bayern Munich to the next round.
Mbappe believes PSG can still qualify against Bayern Munich
PSG lost the first leg 1-0 at the Parc de Princes with Mbappe able to play only 33 minutes of the match due to injury.
With the second leg taking place at Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena, many have written PSG off after they were unable to beat the Bavarians in France, but Mbappe believes that the team’s new-found confidence will be enough for them to overcome steep odds and knock Bayern Munich out on their own turf.
Speaking to Canal Plus after PSG’s 4-2 win over Nantes, Mbappe said, “We will try. We're going there to win and qualify.
“We're determined. We have now got our confidence back and we'll go there to win.”
PSG in high spirits going into Bayern Munich fixture
PSG have won all three matches since the defeat to Bayern Munich in the UCL, including a tough trip to the Velodrome in Ligue 1.
On that occasion, they dismantled Marseille 3-0, with Mbappe scoring twice.
Despite joking about “saving his goals for Bayern Munich” in the interview with Canal Plus, Mbappe has been PSG’s most lethal forward in their last three matches, scoring five times and breaking Edinson Cavani’s record to become PSG’s all-time top scorer.
There is no doubt that these performances, especially from Mbappe himself have been enough to breed confidence in the side, but it remains to be seen whether that confidence can translate into a win at the Allianz Arena against Bayern Munich.
