Jackson Mayanja has declared that his KCCA FC players will not be fazed by the atmosphere and how high the stakes of their clash at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Friday evening are.
KCCA make the short trip across town to Vipers looking for their first away win against their fierce rivals in more than 10 years, that would give them the impetus in the title race.
Victory on Friday would take the Kasasiro Boys top of the table, two points above current leaders SC Villa and bolster their chances of winning their first piece of domestic silverware since 2019.
“We are still in the title race, even after what happened to Onduparaka, we still have a chance, and the title is still alive,” Mayanja told the press ahead of the game.
“And there is nothing much, other than us visiting Vipers and winning the game. We need to win the game tomorrow.”
“My message to Vipers is that we are coming there to win. There is nothing special about us playing away and they have to be ready for the challenge that we are bringing to them,” he added.
The league remains KCCA’s only shot at winning a title this season, and have seen their chances of winning the title improve with the arrival of Mayanja and the turn around in results.
Mayanja has collected seven points from three games since he took charge after Morley Byekwaso left having failed to win in four league games.
He has already enjoyed an emphatic victory over SC Villa in his first game in charge, and followed that with an away victory over Gadaffi FC, which was only KCCA’s fifth win on the road this season.
But Mayanja who won two league titles for KCCA in 1991 & 1997 has warned that the club can build confidence from their pedigree in the league to get them over the line.
“We are sure of our pedigree and we shall carry it with us to them, because KCCA is the greatest club in this country, and we cannot be afraid of anyone,” Mayanja implored.
“As I said, there is nothing special about them or their home ground, and there is nothing to fear about them.”
“There is no sort of intimidation that we are facing, and we shall go out there to attack them, and play to get the result and nothing else.”
“We know that winning the league is our only passage to returning to the continental stage, and we definitely want to win the league at all costs.”
KCCA edged Vipers 1-0 in their earlier meeting this season, while the two sides played out a classic 2-2 stalemate the last time they met at Kitende.
The two teams have faced each other 35 times in the past, with Vipers having an edge over KCCA. The Venoms have won 14 times, drawn nine, and lost 12 matches, scoring 42 goals in the process while the Kasasiro Boys have scored 44 times.
