The international break will be on between 10th and 15th October

The international break is now upon us, with club football going on that unwanted two-week hiatus.

From Africa to Europe and down to South America, there is a lot to anticipate as some countries push on with new management, power houses striving to restore dominance and Cristiano Ronaldo closing the gap on his 1000 goals target.

Here are the top five storylines to look out for in the five-day international break period.

1. Harambee Stars' monumental double-showdown against Cameroon

Harambee Stars will travel to the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé Cameroon on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 17:00.

Michael Olunga will boost Harambee Stars' attack as he has recovered from an injury that side-lined him in Kenya's win over Namibia which was done is spectacular fashion.

The Kenyans will face notable Premier League starts like Andre Onana of Manchester United and Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford who is on a hot scoring streak.

They will meet one more time, three days later on Monday 16th October where Kenya will have the home advantage over the Cameroonians.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo plans to continue carrying Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo aims to continue his goal scoring run as he sets up to lead his country to face Poland on Saturday 12th October.

Ever since their defeat in the Saudi Super Cup in August against rivals Al Hilal Cristiano Ronaldo has scored five times and is in hot form as he joins the Portugal men's national team.

Ronaldo will be itching to continue scoring goals after managing to score one goal each against Croatia and Scotland in matchday one and two of the nations league.

He will be facing another goal scorer, Robert Lewandowski who is going to lead Poland in the battle against Portugal. He is La Liga's and Barcelona's top scorer with a total of 10 goals.

3. England seek more wins under Lee Carsley

England's interim manager Lee Carsley took over after Gareth Southgate stepped down after the EURO 2024 final loss to Spain.

With Carsley managing the Three Lions, they have been able to manage two wins both of which has clean sheets to them showing that his tactics employ a great balance between attacking and defending.

England will face Greece who are also coming into this fixture with two wins. This game will determine who are the elephants in group 2 of League B of the Nations League.

4. Brazil look for stability following shocking performances

Star filled Brazil have not been themselves since failing to go through the Copa America quarter final after losing to Uruguay on penalties.

During the first international break of the 24/25 season, Brazil managed a narrow win against Ecuador before losing at the hands of Paraguay, a defeat that stunned the world.

Missed opportunities and a lack of sharpness proved costly as they were unable to overturn the lead established by Paraguay after 20 minutes.

On Friday Chile will pose a challenge for Brazil as they try to find their feet once more as the powerful football nation that they are.

5. The United States rest their hopes on Mauricio Pochettino's shoulders

After an underwhelming spell at Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino was left without a job after Chelsea decided to part ways with him.

Although after United States fired their former manager Gregg Berhalter and opted for Mauricio Pochettino who has already made needed changes to the squad an is set to make his first start against Panama on Sunday October 13.

Meanwhile, Gregg Berhalter has been named the head coach and director of football for Chicago Fire. He replaces two individuals, Frank Klopas who was the director of football and Georg Heitz who was the head coach.

Before firing Gregg Berhalter, United States were eliminated from the Copa America group stage which they were hosting and have since pulled off underwhelming performances losing to their neighbours Canada and drawing to New Zealand.
